How i edited my chosen photo for my front cover

I chose the following photo for my front cover :

I liked this photo as i felt it would look good on my front page and i am using the theme of hands.

I then began by photoshopping my photo so it looks apropriate for my front page, i decided that i wanted change the backgrund to a block colour, because there were lots of shadows and colour differences in the background. I then used the clone tool, as highlighted in the picture to fill in my background appropriately.

Afterwards i decided i wanted my photo slightly brighter so i brightened my photo.

I also began then making the lips slightly bigger by adding more lipstick to them with the clone stamp tool:

I then cropped my photo to make it a more appropriate size

I then had fully photoshopped my photograph

I drew two focused picture for my front page, each with minor differences and decided that i would see what looked best when i came to doing the front page itself.

Here are my two drawings, with minor differences. The pictures are centered the same, the text and title are all placed the same

But in the first picture the main feature "charlotte clements" is in a circle. But while in the second picture it is in a banner.

The barcodes are slightly different places and a banner is placed at the bottom in  the second photo aswell at the top of the page.

Sketches of ideas for front page

These are the sketches for my front page of my magazine. I sketched out 4 similiar ideas with some changes to each of them and decided what i liked best out of all of them.

Second photo shoot for front page and comparision of pictures

In the two pictures above i have tried to recreate the picture of the famous singer florence and the machine, my model has the correct hair colour and hair length and is doing the same pose.

I got my model to create a similar pose to the one seen above by using her hands by the chin and cheek area of her face.

Although the hair is not similar in this photo, the hands are . I did not want to copy the pictures identically but wanted to base them loosely around photos i have seen and researched.

Once again the hair is not similar to the singer in the top picture, Lana Del Rey's but the hand on the hip pose and pouted look is similar.

All this research shows that i have connected by research appropriately to the photos i took.

second photo shoot for front page

After doing further detailed research i then photographed my model for the second time, in total i took 75 photos for this photoshoot but i chose a selection of the photos i took to put on my blog.

My model used a range of poses, in particular with her hands, as this relates to my research. I changed the hair style and lip colour of my model 3 times to change the look to try and find the perfect picture.

Font research for music magazine

I then started doing some font research for my front cover, i used indesign to do this and begun by doing some very generic font research using a range of random fonts.

After doing my generic research i then chose 3 of my favourite fonts

( Imperial BT )

(Basic sans heavy SF)

(Zapfhumnst ult BT)

After choosing my three favourite fonts i then proceeced onto developing these 3 fonts in range of ways.

After doing this i decided to take out one of my fonts Basic sans heavy SF and then chose the two best designs after altering them more.

From these two i then decided upon different colours

I like both colours but i prefer the orange as my model is wearing orange lipstick so it will correspond well with the colours on the page.

Focused pictures and magazine research

Before taking my second shots for my front page i decided to do some focused research into the type of poses i would want my model doing, and what i would want her too look like. I found pictures and also included a previous magazine cover which i liked.

I liked the look of the first three photos as the models are all ginger or red-headed like mine. They are also all using there hands to pose which i am going to make my model do. The pictures are all quite serious apart from the second one which is playful. The models hair is curly in all three pictures, like the model i am using for mine. The skin is pale aswell which is similar to my model.

I liked these two photographs because both models were pouting  and had curly hair like my model. the makeup on the womens faces is quite plain, which i intend to have on my model . They are all focused on the facial expressions which i am going to do. Although i am intending to dress my model very plainly unlike these models.

Magazine cover research for second photoshoot

After thinking about the style and look of my model further after doing my originial photoshoot I realised that my model was not appropraite for the seductive style of magazine i wanted and found more of an appropriate magazine style for my model. Here i have done some research into the magazine stlye i am now going to be focusing on.

Although this is not a music magazine, the picture of the model reminds me of mine as of the pout and blank expression on the face. The colours correspond well on the front cover as they have used a range of pinks, white and black. The picture of the model stands out well and i really like this type of magazine cover. I like the font and think that is works well on the cover.

This model also is very similiar to my model as of the red hair, her pose if also very stern and blank but the picture works well. There is a very clear colour scheme or black white and a red title which matches the models red hair. I do not like the type of font used on this cover or the way which it is set out but i like the models pose.

This is my least favourite out of all three magazine covers, as i think there is not enough text on the page and makes the front cover look bland. The picture makes up for this slightly, i like the models facial expression but i would not have the type of clothing for my model that this model is wearing. The colours work well but there needs to be more text for this magazine cover to work.
